Brazil for Nature Lovers

Brazil for Nature Lovers

When you picture Brazil, what do you think about? Carnival? Rio de Janeiro? The statue of Christ the Redeemer? While Brazil has a rich cultural scene, it is also an adventure-packed travel destination that is perfect for nature lovers. There is an experience for everyone.

There is a LOT to discover in Brazil. Brazil alone is as big as the whole European continent. It is considered to be the most biodiverse country in the world, due partly because of its sheer size and diverse ecosystems.

Places for nature lovers to visit in Brazil

The Amazon

The Amazon is still one of the best regions to visit in Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest is the world’s largest rainforest and covers most of the Amazon River basin. The Central Amazon Conservation Complex is protected by UNESCO. Wildlife and ecosystem highlights of this region include pink dolphins, piranha fishing, the Rio Negro’s freshwater archipelago, caiman-spotting at night, flooded forests, pink-faced uakari monkeys, and tarantulas.

The Pantanal

The Pantanal floodplain is the world’s largest tropical wetland and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it isn’t as well known as the Amazon, it has the highest concentration of wildlife in the Americas. It is ideal for wildlife viewing because of the open grasslands, marshes, and lakes. Adventurous activity options include canoeing, horseback riding, and hiking.

Iguazu Falls

Brazil has lots of waterfalls, but none is more well known than Iguazu Falls, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For centuries, the enthralling Iguazu Falls have awed tourists, locals, and even indigenous inhabitants. Also known as Iguaçu Falls, it boasts 275 individual drops.

It flows from the Iguazu River, and it sits on the border of Brazil (in the state of Paraná) and Argentina. The same falls divide the river with the same name into two: the upper and lower portions. This river serves as the boundary between Brazil and Argentina, making it an essential part of the political and geographical structure of the continent of South America.

In addition to the above, Brazil’s adventure travel destinations also include beaches, mountains, deserts, and national parks. I’ll save those for a future article.
